I was born and raised on a Waikato dairy farm and am the eldest of six children and learnt a few leadership skills as a result! After attending St John’s College in Hamilton I headed off to study agriculture and valuation at Massey University.
Having survived Massey and an OE, I became a rural manager in the greater Waikato / King Country with what was then Trustbank. In 1996 my wife Di and I took up farming in Aria (south of Te Kuiti) in a family partnership for 5 years.
The launch of ASB Bank rural division meant I returned to banking (alongside continued involvement in the farm) for 8 years, during which time Di and I purchased our existing dairy farm in Cambridge.
A contract milker runs our farm on a day to day basis. A second dairy farm is leased where a manager is employed. Other business interests include a share in dairy heifer grazing property and a share in a dairy farm in the Otago region.
We live on our dairy farm with our 3 children and I cover time off and holidays on the farm.
Di and I enjoy travel and sport. I regularly play squash, running and social cricket in the summer months along with some fishing. Keeping up with the kids activities keep us busy.
